Goals just keep you distracted
from thinking about
your inevitable destination
And we all need
that distraction
but, let’s not fool ourselves, that’s all it is
Life is not a ladder you climb
surpassing others
toward some status reward
Life is a circle
We start at 0
and end there
It is so easy in life
to get caught up playing “catch up”
to your classmates and peers
We do so many things every day
out of ambition or envy
or ego or jealousy
But life is not a competition
it’s a c o m m u n i t y
It’s about shared experiences, not self-aggrandizing
You are not better than me
nor am I better than you
because of what either of us have done
To ask: Who is the best? Who has the most?
These are the wrong questions
Where is there love? <---Ask that. Go there. Be that.
We live in a society that expects us
to think that we work towards this and then that and then the other
and we think that means we’re heading in some kind of direction
“we’re moving forward”
But we’re all headed in the same direction
and we end up there no matter how much money we make
how well known we are or how much love we receive while we’re here
Life is not about your goals
I’m not saying
“Don’t have goals”
just don’t think that’s all there is
here and
now
there is so much for you
invest here
now
show up in your life as if you’d already reached
the height of your ladder
because you have
each day holds your best and your worst
and neither matters as much as your love
